Major Overhaul of Vanyukov Furnace No. 1 Completed at Balkhash Copper Smelter
A scheduled major overhaul of Vanyukov Furnace No. 1, one of the key units of the smelting shop, has been completed at the Balkhash Copper Smelter of Kazakhmys Smelting. Such maintenance is carried out every eighteen months to ensure reliable equipment performance, stable technological processes, and uninterrupted production operations.
Vanyukov Furnace No. 1 plays a critical role in the plant’s production cycle, processing more than 350 tonnes of matte per day. The stable operation of the furnace is essential for maintaining production efficiency and achieving the plant’s operational targets.
During the month-long maintenance campaign, a comprehensive scope of refurbishment and modernization work was carried out. Specialists replaced metal structures and technological components of the furnace and upgraded several assemblies and mechanisms to ensure safe and efficient operation.
The project involved approximately 15 organizations, including plant divisions and contracting companies. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all participants, the maintenance work was performed around the clock and completed ahead of schedule.
Following the completion of the overhaul, specialists conducted technical inspections and testing of the equipment. The completed work will improve the operational reliability of the furnace, support stable production processes, and contribute to safer working conditions for employees.
The scheduled overhaul marks another important step in Kazakhmys Smelting’s ongoing modernization program aimed at improving production efficiency and ensuring the sustainable development of the enterprise.
