BALKHASH SITE

The Balkhash site has 6 main industrial facilities, including 3 mines, 1 concentrating mills, 1 copper smelting plant, and 1 CHP plant, a number of auxiliary shops and enterprises.

ZHEZKAZGAN SITE

The Zhezkazgan site has 11 main industrial facilities, including 6 mines, 3 concentrating mills, 1 copper smelter and 1 CHP plant, a number of auxiliary shops and enterprises.

    1. 1938

      In March 1938 testing of the Concentrator equipment began and the first Balkhash copper concentrate was obtained.

      In July 1938 - the first reverberatory furnace was put into operation - metallurgical production was started.

      November 24, 1938 - the first Balkhash blister copper was produced.

    2. 1952 - 1956

      1952-1956 - marked by the beginning of the production of anode copper and cathode copper at the first and second stages of the Copper Refining Shop.

    3. 1962 - 1975

      In 1962-1975, three phases of the sulfuric acid shop were launched.

    4. 1967

      In 1967, the third stage of the Copper Refining Shop and the Tokrau-Balkhash water conduit were launched.

      Copper of plant in 1967 was recognized as the standard of copper in the world.

    5. 1971

      February 23, 1971 - the first stage of copper electrolyte production, consisting of two anode furnaces and 24 series of electrolyzers.

    6. 1973

      February 1973 - the first stage of the production of blister copper consisting of the charge preparation shop, one ore-thermal furnace, three converters and four dry electrostatic precipitators.

      June 1973 - the first system of the Sulfuric Acid Plant.

    7. 1974

      In 1974-1979, pilot-industrial technologies for melting in a liquid bath were carried out.

      September 1974 - the third stage of copper electrolysis, the completion of the construction of the complex.

      November 1974 - the second stage of the production of blister copper, the completion of the construction of the complex.

    8. 1976

      October 1976 - the opening of a Rare Metal Shop.

    9. 1977

      December 1977 - the fourth system of the Sulfuric Acid Plant, the completion of the construction of the complex.

    10. 1985

      1985 - start-up of a melting furnace in a liquid bath.

    11. 1995

      June 1995 - Zhezkazgantsvetmet JSC was transferred to the management of the corporation “Samsung DeutschlandGmbH”.

    12. 1996

      In 1996 - 1998 - serious technological improvements of the plant's obsolete equipment have been carried out since the mid-90s. The loading and flue ducts of ore-thermal furnaces were modernized according to the technology of the Swedish company Boliden.

      In 1996-1997 - in the Anode Area of the Smelting Shop a casting wheel with weight-dosing equipment of the Finnish company “Outokumpu Venmek” was implemented, to double the productivity of copper pouring, reduce the yield of defective anodes, and also allow to increase control over the deviation of the anode weight from specified no more than 0.5 kg.

    13. 1997

      1997 - a Precious Metal Plant was launched.

      July 1997 - by the decision of the meeting of shareholders on the basis of Zhezkazgantsvetmet JSC, Kazakhmys Corporation LLP was established.

    14. 1999

      September 1999 - start of operation of copper water-cooled elements at slag holes.

    15. 2000

      2000 - implementation of the process control system: electrolyte filtration, separation of matrix series into a separate circuit and a set of works made it possible to increase the production of high-quality cathode copper and its registration on the London Metal Exchange.

    16. 2001 - 2004

      2001 -2004 - reconstruction of converters with an increase in productivity from 80 tons to 100 tons.

    17. 2002

      January 2002 - 2003 - put into operation a dry electrostatic precipitator EKG at ore-thermal furnaces-1, 2 for cleaning furnace gases.

      2002 - 2008 - the launch and shutdown of the jewelry and decorative workshop.

    18. 2004

      2004 - the second melting furnace in a liquid bath (VF) was launched.

    19. 2008

      October 2008 - replacement of BOU-40 with ceramic filters.

      2008 - launch of a new Sulfuric Acid Plant.

    20. 2010

      March - April 2010 - start-up of ore-thermal furnace No. 2 after a major overhaul with the replacement of a hearth and a 25-year working campaign.

      May 2010 - commissioning of the ore-thermal furnace-2 after a major overhaul with the replacement of a hearth and a 25-year working campaign.

    21. 2011

      January 2011 - Xin Yan anode straightening line launched. A new anode straightening line was installed in the anode section of the workshop with an equipment capacity of 320 anodes per hour.

      2010-2011 – to the achievements in the field of improving working conditions, as well as improving technologies in the Copper Refining Shop, the installation of new polymer concrete baths should be attributed.

    22. 2012

      March 01, 2012 - formation of Kazakhmys Smelting LLP on the basis of the Metallurgical Complex.

      2012-2014 polymer concrete cells were installed in Copper Refining Shop.

    23. 2013

      During the shutdown of the plant in 2013-2014 in compartments No. 8, 10 of the warehouse of concentrates of the Batch Preparation Shop stations for packing the concentrate into soft containers of the BIG-BAG type for shipment of the concentrate to the consumer were installed.

    24. 2014

      On September 15, 2014, after the repair of the main equipment, the plant was put into operation.

      October 18, 2014 first melting of blister copper. With the launch of the Smelting Shop, the units of the Sulfuric Acid Plant were put into operation. Gas from metallurgical units is supplied for coarse cleaning in dust chambers and cyclones.

      October 21, 2014 first melting of anode copper. Production of the first 3 tons of commercial lead and 23 tons of sulfuric acid.

      October 27, 2014 – switching on of the second circuit of the Copper Refining Shop was carried out with two loaded series No. 41 and No. 32.

    25. 2014

      November 4, 2014 - start of pumping washing acid to the Rare Metals Shop for the extraction of rhenium.

      November 7, 2014 - the Sulfuric Acid Plant went into operation, 2 batches of commercial lead dust with a lead content of 40.2%, sulfuric acid with a concentration of 90.3% were ready, 160 m3 of washing acid was pumped into the Rare Metal Shop. The second birth of Zhezkazgan copper. Production of cathode copper.
